Text Messaging

Who can live in this world without text messaging now? I'd say very few people don't have text messaging on their phone. Text messaging has become something very big over the last couple of years, especially with the newer cell phones.
When texting first came out in 1992, only 0.4% of people with cell phones used it. The very first message read "Merry Christmas". Since then, the amount a person could send in one message got bigger and bigger, and now it doesn't just include text, but pictures, and videos.
There are various ways people text. There are abbreviations for just about every word in the dictionary. Smiley faces are not just :) anymore. There's :( :/ ;) and so many more!!
Here's some more info on texting and its history and some crazy video of someone texting.
Enjoy!

  3. I think text messaging is the best. I would rather text because it's easier and faster. Some people won't answer than phone, but when you text them then that's another story. Another thing about texting is the keyboard. I have to have a keyboard on my phone or not have a phone at all. Texting with the regular keys is hard and it takes way to long.

  4. Answer I can live without text messaging. I have never sent or responded to any text message I have ever gotten, and have been able to live my life and communicate just fine. I know that texting is how so many young people communicate. But are we truly interacting when we text? Or are we missing a big part of social interaction when we actually speak to someone and hear their voice, hear their inflection? I also think texting makes us bad spellers. We abbreviate everything to get it to fit in the 160 character limit. I ask is there any place for grammar left in our conversations? You can keep your emoticons. I would rather see an actual smiling face over a :) any day.

  5. I am Always the last person to jump on a technology fad train, Texting came into my life only a year ago. And i am no old fogy. I am just Technologically ignorant, I feel that no new tech advance will last until I am the only one not using it. However , I have identified this and am trying to overcome my fears as too not get lost in the dust.
I have yet to get an Ipod or nav system.

  6. Text messages is a way to talk to people you don't what to talk to. lol. Just a joke. Texting has change language forever. Nowadays phones already have programmed into it abbrevations and emotion icons. Text is a phenomenal piece of technological invention. There are people who text way more than they type. On the other hand, text I became aware that it has a darkside to it. People have become more adjusted to texting and do hardly any talking. When I talk to a friend of mine it seems I take most of the conversation. I think texting has taking away the conversations that I had before.

  7. It seems only a few years ago cell phones were "the thing" because of peoples' access to call each other from almost everywhere. Now more and more people are texting instead of calling. I am curious to what will happen in the future. Will people become less likely to talk at all? Anymore it seems people text one another when they are sitting in the same room and sometimes right next to one another.

  8. Text messaging has become a part of my life. My ten year old grandaughter refers to text me rather than call me. I was forced to start texting. Everyone participates in texting, businesses such as banks, cell phone carriers and the list goes on and on. Even though I would refer to talk to another human being, times has change and I have to get with the program. This class has helped a lot.
