Pigeon post is the use of homing pigeon to carry messages. Pigeon were transported to a destination in cages, where they would be attached with messages, and then naturally the pigeon would fly back to its home where the owner could read his mail. The Greek and Romans both used the pigeon post to convey information, and many pigeon worked in military service, carrying message with troop orders and other military material from place to place.
If only we didnt have the UPS now this would be our main use of sending letters. But on the other hand, thank God for UPS cuz poop would be flying on our heads everyday. Homing Pigeon must of been difficult because how could you trust that the pigeon flew home?
ReplyDeleteI find it amazing that pigeons are intelligent enough to be carriers of letters and come back home. I do wonder if the pigeons would have been blindfolded during the voyage if they would have still known the way back home.
ReplyDeleteIt’s interesting to think that that was the best way to send messages. I wonder how many messages got lost because some bigger animal got the pigeon. Today I get upset when tracking a package and it sits in one place for too long.
