Cave Paintings
Cave paintings are paintings on cave walls and ceilings. The most common themes in cave paintings are large wild animals, and abstract patterns called finger flutings. Evidence suggest that these paintings were not just decorations, but were used for communicating with others. This is an example how art plays a very important role in communication.
It's always interesting when an Archeologist discovers a lost cave, and then tries to interpret the drawings and paintings on the wall. I would agree that they were used to communicate, but would think that the display is for story telling youngsters or friends, or possibly a message on what transpired when they moved on. Very intersting.
ReplyDeleteI have always thought of cave drawings to be ancient man's way of recording history. The drawings tell a story about this primitive way of life. I have seen some of these drawings and remember being amazed at not only how old they were but they were still here today for others to marvel at.
